Israel Update

JERUSALEM-ON-THE-LINE October 4, 2009

"Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation." Zech 9: 9

HAMAS RELEASES VIDEO OF KIDNAPPED SOLDIER GILAD SCHALIT: His skin was pale. His black hair was cropped short. He sat on a white chair against a white background, held a copy of a newspaper published in Gaza and pleaded for freedom. In a clear voice, the 23-year-old read from a prepared text. "Hello, I am Gilad, son of Noam and Aviva Schalit, brother of Hadas and Yoel," he said. The two-minute video in which he told his family he loved them and asked PM Netanyahu to free him, was given to Gilad's parents on Friday. Twenty female Palestinian prisoners were released in return for the video of lDF soldier Gilad Schalit - held captive by Hamas terrorists for more than three years. (J.Post) Lets pray in a miracle for the release of Gilad Schalit. "About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God.... Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open...." Acts 16: 25,26

ISRAEL KNOWS EXACTLY WHERE SCHALIT IS HELD: Israel knows exactly where kidnapped IDF Sgt. Gilad Schalit is being held captive and has the location under constant surveillance, according to a senior Israeli defense official. The fear that Schalit might get hurt or killed is preventing the launching of an operation to storm the location, said the report. In addition, Hamas is aware that Israel knows Schalit’s location and has responded by surrounding the area with explosives in a 400-500 meter radius and issued a directive to kill the soldier if Israel attacks. TEMPLE MOUNT CLOSED; JEWS COMPLAIN, ARABS RIOT: The Temple Mount is closed to both Arabs and Jews, though many of the latter hoped to visit the site in honor of the Succot holiday. North of the holy spot, at the Lion’s Gate, some 250 Arabs rioted and hurled rocks and bottles at police. One policeman was injured, and several arrests were made. The holiest site in Judaism was closed by police after Islamic clerics called upon Arabs to "come and defend the Mount." A week ago, on the eve of Yom Kippur, 12 police officers were injured in riots instigated by the Muslim Trust that runs the Temple Mount. The US State Department has called on American citizens to avoid Jerusalem's Old City during the week of Succot, warning visitors of increased violence, crime and heavy traffic. (INN/J.Post)

IRAN HAS SUFFICIENT DATA TO PRODUCE ATOMIC BOMB: A confidential analysis by staff of the UN nuclear watchdog has concluded Iran has acquired "sufficient information to be able to design and produce" an atom bomb. The report released Sunday assesses Iran has ample knowledge to be able to design and produce a workable implosion nuclear device based on highly enriched uranium. Iran, which rejects Western charges that it is seeking to build nuclear weapons, held talks with six world powers in Geneva on Thursday. Western officials said that in the talks, Iran had agreed "in principle" to ship out most of its enriched uranium for reprocessing in Russia and France. (Reuters) Continue to pray for God’s wisdom to be extended to world leaders in dealing with this nuclear menace - a threat to the entire globe starting with Israel and US military facilities in the Middle East.

MOST JEWISH AMERICANS SUPPORT IRAN ATTACK: A new American Jewish Committee survey of US Jews shows for the first time, a majority of them would support a US military strike against Iran, and an even larger majority would support such a move by Israel. The AJC s report showed 56% of American Jews would support, and 36% would oppose US military action against Iran to prevent it from developing nuclear weapons. Some 66% would support, and 28% would oppose, Israel taking military action against Iran. (INN)

GYMS TO BE USED AS TREATMENT CENTERS FOR CHEMICAL ATTACK VICTIMS: The IDF's Home Front Command has been preparing an emergency plan to use gyms across the country as alternatives to hospitals to treat victims in the event of a chemical missile attack. A Home Front Command source said any missile attack on Israel - conventional or not - would likely result in hospitals being flooded with victims and to a collapse of emergency health services, leading to the idea of using gyms as back-up treatment centers. The plan is being overseen by the Home Front Command together with the Health Ministry. (J.Post)

ISRAEL COMPLAINS TO UN OVER KASSAMS: Israeli Ambassador to the UN Gabriela Shalev lodged a complaint with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Saturday regarding a rise in terrorist attacks from the Gaza Strip in the last month. She said Palestinians had launched some 13 Kassam rockets and mortar shells into southern Israel throughout September. Many attempts to plant bombs along the Gaza border were foiled by IDF troops, she added. Shalev's complaint came after the army escalated its response to the Kassam rocket fire from the Gaza Strip, bombing a weapons manufacturing plant in the heart of Gaza City on Saturday for the first time since Operation Cast Lead. (J.Post) "Awake, and rise to my defense! Contend for me, my God and Lord." Ps 35:23

WHITE HOUSE ISSUES HOLIDAY GREETINGS TO MUSLIMS, NOT JEWS: Both Jews and Muslims celebrated holidays in September 2009. However, the US Consulate in Jerusalem America's representative in Israel's capital chose to focus entirely on Islam this year, while ignoring the Jewish holidays of Rosh HaShana and Yom Kippur completely. The Consulate's website features Eid il-Fitr greetings from US President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Consul General Daniel Rubinstein. All three holiday wishes from American leaders to Muslims focused on messages such as "personal reflection" and "charity." In contrast, President Obama's Rosh HaShana greeting, which is not on the site, included a brief promotion of his Israel-Palestinian Authority peace plan. (INN)

NOBEL PRIZE PREDICTORS LIST TA UNIVERSITY PHYSICIST AS POSSIBLE WINNER: A Tel Aviv University physicist is on the short list for a 2009 Nobel Prize. Prof. Yakir Aharonov discovered the Aharonov-Bohm Effect and the related Berry Phase, which had a wide influence on the development of the basic principles of quantum mechanics. On October 11, TAU will open a scientific conference in honor of Aharonov's 50 years of scientific work. It will be attended by leading scientists from around the world. (J.Post)

As international speakers and messengers of the Good News through music, Barry and Batya Segal are at the forefront of what God is doing in the present day nation of Israel. With strong ties in both the nations and Jerusalem, the Segals are weaving the deepest roots of our biblical heritage together with the fresh Spirit-filled worship of today to create their rich harmony of Scripture and song.

The Segals have a vast vision for God's purposes in the nations and to the people of Israel. In fact, their longing to help rebuild Israel both spiritually and physically inspired them to pioneer the non-profit charity organization, Vision for Israel and The Joseph Storehouse. This arm of their ministry focuses on assisting the poor and needy, widows and orphans, and reaching out to the new Jewish immigrants coming into the land of Israel. Vision 's most challenging project to date is "The Joseph Storehouse®", humanitarian aid center, located in the hills of Jerusalem. The Joseph Storehouse functions as a channel of blessing to all of Israel, Jewish and Arab, through the gathering and distribution of emergency medical supplies, food, clothing, and other basic life necessities.
