JERUSALEM-ON-THE-LINE August 6, 2009

"The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light." Rom 13: 11, 12

CHRISTIAN FAMILY BURNED TO DEATH IN PAKISTAN: Hundreds of armed supporters of an Islamic terrorist group, burned dozens of Christian homes in Gojra over the weekend after allegations that a copy of the Koran had been defiled. The mob opened fire indiscriminately, threw gas bombs and looted houses as thousands of frightened Christians ran for safety. Residents reported police stood aside while the mob went on the rampage. Police and local officials said at least eight people, including four women and a child, were killed in the fires. Two others died of gunshot wounds. Residents said casualties were much higher; one claimed the number of dead could be in the dozens as many bodies were still buried under the rubble. Shahbaz Bhatti, the Minister for Minorities, said 40 Christian homes were torched during the rioting. He added there was no truth to allegations a Koran had been defiled and accused the police of ignoring his appeal to provide protection to Christians. UNIFIED ARAB FRONT CALLS FOR MORE US PRESSURE ON ISRAEL: Arab states are putting up a unified front in pushing for continued US pressure on Israel. In meetings with Kuwaiti, Jordanian and Saudi officials this week, American leaders were given the same message in different forms. In a conference with US President Obama on Monday, Kuwaiti Emir Sabah al-Ahmed al-Sabah said Israel must concede to Arab demands, as laid out in a 2002 Saudi diplomatic initiative. The Saudi Initiative calls for a full Israeli withdrawal from all lands under Jewish sovereignty since 1967, including Jerusalem, the creation of a new Arab sovereignty in those lands, and Israeli shouldering of the responsibility for settling all Arabs who fled the 1948 Israeli War of Independence and their descendants. This is termed a "just solution" in the text of the initiative and is understood to refer to Israel absorbing several million more Arab citizens. In exchange, Arab states ratifying the deal would offer normal relations with the Jewish State. (INN) "He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep." Ps 121:4

ARAB STATES WARNED AGAINST ISRAEL DEAL: Palestinian leaders warned Arab states on Monday that any effort to normalize ties with Israel at the urging of US President Obama would deal a damaging blow to their quest for statehood. (Telegraph-UK)

FATAH LEADER WARNS OF PARTY SPLIT: As more than 2,000 delegates gathered in Bethlehem for the long-delayed Sixth Fatah Congress, the secretary of Fatah in Bethlehem, Abdullah Abu Hadid, warned of a split in the party if the leadership denies a role to the younger generation who launched a wave of violence against Israel in the second intifada. Hadid was quoted as saying, "We have the leaders of the first and second intifadas and the real leaders of the Palestinian people, the leaders of the Palestinian street." PA President Mahmoud Abbas has been struggling to stay in control of the movement after Fatah members lost an election in 2006 to Hamas and were expelled from Gaza in a bloody coup the following year. COSTAL ROAD KILLER ALLOWED TO ENTER JUDEA: Israel has allowed several hundred foreign terrorists to enter Judea in recent days in order to allow them to participate in a leadership conference planned by Fatah, the party currently leading the Palestinian Authority. Among those who have been granted entry is Khalid Abu Isba, one of the terrorists who carried out the infamous Coastal Road Massacre of 1978. Twelve terrorists infiltrated Israel, murdered an American photographer and hijacked two buses. A total of 38 Israeli civilians were murdered in the attack, 13 of them children, and another 71 were wounded. Isba, who served only seven years in prison before being released in a prison exchange, is not willing to express remorse or to apologize for what he did. (INN) "Deliver me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of evil and cruel men." Ps 71:4

IRAN WAITING FOR KHAMENEI GO-AHEAD TO BUILD ATOM BOMB: Western intelligence sources say the Iranians completed their research program to create weaponized uranium back in 2003. Contrary to a US National Intelligence report which claimed Iran halted its nuclear activities because of the threat of an American invasion following the occupation of Iraq, the real reason was the Iranians had figured out how to detonate a warhead that could be fitted on its long-range Shehab-3 missiles. Should it so desire, Iran could produce a nuclear weapon within one year, in which it would need six months to produce enough enriched uranium and another six months to build a warhead. Sources say all that separates Tehran from arming itself with an atomic bomb is final approval from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. (Ha’aretz)

IRANIAN CIVILIAN PLANE THAT CRASHED WAS CARRYING ARMS TO HIZBALLAH: An Iranian plane crash two weeks ago - which left 168 people dead - was caused by the explosion of sophisticated fuses slated to be delivered to the Lebanese terrorist group, Hizballah. According to Italian sources, the plane was meant to transfer the fuses from Iran to Armenia, and from there to Syria through Turkey, and then on the ground to Lebanon. This route was chosen, according to opposition sources, so as not to draw attention. (Ynet)

HUNDREDS OF SWINE FLU DEATHS EXPECTED THIS WINTER: There could be some 700 deaths in the expected swine flu outbreak in Israel this winter, Health Ministry Director-General Prof. Avi Yisraeli said during a Knesset meeting on Monday, adding that most of the deaths would be among youngsters. During the meeting on the purchase of swine flu vaccines, Yisraeli predicted about a quarter of Israel's population would contract the virus.(J.Post) "Praise the Lord, O my soul and forget not all his benefits - who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases." Ps 103

ISRAEL SOON TO BE LARGER THAN DIASPORA: PM Binyamin Netanyahu welcomed a planeload of immigrants on Tuesday at Ben-Gurion Airport, telling them that "for the first time in 2,000 years, there are going to be more Jews in Israel than outside it." Israel's Jewish population is nearing the six million mark. (J.Post) "He will love you and bless you and increase your numbers." Deut 7:13
